July 13 - Baby Nugget RV (Watson Lake) to Walker's Continental Divide campground

114 km
The cafe opens at 7:00 so we were there at 5 to so we would be the first to order. It wasn't busy, the only other people there were a couple on their way to Alaska in their auto. They had done a lot of touring, Pacific Coast and Ireland so wanted to talk about what we are doing. We were on our way by eight and made good time, getting 60 km done before we stopped at a rest area for lunch. I was tired, having stayed up too late reading last night because it never seems to get dark here. The rest area had no picnic table so we chose a flat spot amongst the trees to eat the bagel, bananaga and peanut butter. There was no place to stop besides highway reststops until we had cycled abotu 98 kms. When we got Rancheria Lodge we got more to eat. It was an old, but not too seriously falling apart lodge. But the activities must be limited because several people, young and old were sitting in the cafe smoking and drinking beer at 3 in the afternoon.

Our objective for the evening was a lodge at the continental divide. There had not been any serious climbing for the day so we were expecting a serious hill over the next 18 kilometres. In fact, there was a strong tailwind and no hill until theer was only 5 left to go. The hill was steep, with swirling winds because thunderstorms in the area but with the last km downhill we beat the storm and have the tents set up. Once again I'm in the laundry room where I can plug in while doing my journal.
